Immigrant women and their families need the possibility of accessing reproductive-health and childcare services to be able to integrate themselves quickly and successfully into their new community.
For that reason, in 1997, Salud y Familia implemented the new "From Compatriot to Compatriot" project, to improve access for women and immigrant families in Catalonia to health services and reproductive and child health options.
During the period between 1997 and 2010, the “Compatriot to Compatriot” service helped 16.094 newly-arrived immigrants and, during 2011, shall continue its work in offering immediate help, healthcare documentation normalisation and intercultural information promoting health.
This service is being carried out in collaboration with a number of different Primary Health Centres and with the existing network of immigrant information and help centres in the city of Barcelona.
