Since 1994, and in answer to the problem of repeated abortions in women who do not use the public family planning services available, Salud y Familia has developed an IMMEDIATE CONTRACEPTION PROGRAMME aimed at these particular women. This programme offers the option of safe contraception at the moment when the legal interruption of pregnancy is financed. Women who participate in this programme have an IUD (Inter-Uterine Device) implanted immediately after termination. Between 1994 and 2010, 23.851 women attended and 4.062 ettended in the period 2009 - 2010

Also in 1994, Salud y Familia started a FAMILY COUNSELLING SERVICE for couples and women diagnosed with foetal malformations or risks. This service is given in cooperation with the main pre-natal diagnostic centres in Catalonia, and especially with the obstetric/gynaecological service at the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona. It offers information and emotional support in the process of making a decision towards continuing or terminating the pregnancy. This service is also open to women and couples who wish to go on with the risk pregnancy, be it their own decision or because of the impossibility of choosing an abortion due to a late diagnosis. From 1994 to 2010 3.247 women and / couples attended.

During 2005, Salud y Familia started a “Detection of Domestic Violence” programme which identifies and supports women in situations where there is a risk of domestic violence. The programme is run in collaboration with social services and private organisations accredited in dealing with domestic violence such as the Genus Institute.
